SUPPLIES NEEDED:
•Existing comforter (duvet)
•2-1/2 yards each of 5 fabrics (for duvet front)
•5 yards of decorator fabric (for duvet back)
•8 yards of ball fringe
•Velcro® brand Soft & Flexible SEW-ON tape
•Husqvarna Viking Edge/Joining Foot
•Huskylock® 3- or 4-thread serger
•Husqvarna Viking Designer I, Platinum
950E, Rose, Quilt Designer II or Iris sewing and
embroidery machine
FABRIC CUTTING DIRECTIONS:
Measure the length and width of the comforter to becovered. For the duvet cover front, cut the five fabric pieces into strips 4-1/2”, 5-1/2”, and 6-1/2” wide by the length of the comforter plus 1-1/2". When the strips are sewn together, they should equal the width of the comforter plus 1". For duvet cover back, cut the fabric the length of the comforter plus 1-1/2" by the width of the comforter plus 1".The fabric will need to be pieced to achieve the correct width.

CONSTRUCTING THE DUVET COVER:

To create the duvet cover front, stitch the fabric strips, right sides together, lengthwise using a Huskylock® 3- or 4-thread serger stitch.The wide 3- thread or 4-thread stitch formation on the Huskylock serger is a true 1/4” wide perfect for piecing fabrics. Vary the fabrics and the widths of the strips to create an interesting duvet cover top. As you piece, press all the seam allowances to one side. Clean-finish the top edge of the duvet front and back with a serger.Turn under 1" along the finished edges and press.

Open out the pressed top edges and pin the Velcro®Soft and Flexible SEW-ON tape in place between thefold and the serged edge. Stitch in place close toeach edge. Use the Husqvarna Viking Edge/Joining. Foot for accurate sewing.This foot features a flange that rides along the edge of the fabric and the hook
and loop tape.

Fold the hem on the pressed line and stitch in place close to the serged edge.

Pin the ball fringe with the flat edge of the fringe even with the raw edges to the side and bottom edges of the duvet cover front; baste.

Pin the duvet cover front and back, right sides together. Stitch along the side and bottom edges with a 1/2" seam allowance.Turn right side out and press. Insert your comforter.

SUPPLIES NEEDED:
•2 yards of lining for deck
•4 yards of decorator fabric for skirt
•1/2 yard of contrasting fabric for pleats
•Husqvarna Viking Endless Embroidery Hoop
•Husqvarna Viking Design Disc 65, Delicate and
Dainty by Margrit Grimm
•Tear-away stabilizer
•Husqvarna Viking Edge/Joining Foot
•Velcro® brand Soft & Flexible SEW-ON tape
•Huskylock® 3- or 4-thread serger
•Husqvarna Viking Designer I, Platinum
950E, Rose, Quilt Designer II or Iris sewing and
embroidery machine

FABRIC CUTTING DIRECTIONS:
Measure the length (A) and width (B) of the the box
spring or base of your day bed. Cut the lining to the
length plus 1" by the width plus 2". Your fabric may
need to be pieced to obtain the required width.
For the bed skirt panels, measure the short sides (B)
of the bed and cut two panels to this measurement
plus 4" by the required depth (top of the box spring
to the floor plus 2-1/2" (C)).


Measure the long sides (A) of the bed and cut the back panel to this measurement plus 7" by the required depth plus 2-1/2”. Cut the front skirt panel to the same measurement by the required depth plus 3".

From the contrasting fabric, cut four pleat inserts
12"-wide by the cut skirt depth (C).

CONSTRUCTING THE BED SKIRT:
Removable Panel
Piece the deck fabric as needed. Clean-finish all the
edges with a Huskylock 3- or 4-thread serger stitch.
Turn under and press a 1-1/2" hem along one long
edge of the deck piece. Open out the hem and pin
one side of the Velcro® brand Soft & Flexible SEWON
tape to the right side of this piece between the
serged edge and the fold.The top edge of the tape
should be 1/4” from the fold. Use the Husqvarna
Viking Edge/Joining Foot to accurately sew the tape.

Measure and mark a placement line 6" up from the bottom of the front skirt panel pieces. Set up your
Husqvarna Viking sewing machine for embroidery and embellish the edge following the marking using
the Husqvarna Viking Endless Embroidery Hoop.This hoop allows you to stitch a design over and over
again with accurate placement each time.The embroidery designs on Husqvarna Viking Design Disc
65 by Margrit Grimm have a unique built-in jumpstitch for placement of endless stitching in the Endless Hoop.

Divide and cut one long skirt panel piece into thirds. With right sides together, pin two inserts and the
skirt panel pieces together along the cut edge. Stitch in place with your Huskylock serger. Repeat on the other long panel piece.

Turn under and press a 1" double fold hem along the bottom edge of all skirt panel pieces.Topstitch the
hem in place close to the fold.Try using the Husqvarna Viking Edge Stitching Foot and the 25 adjustable needle positions for accurate topstitching.

Form pleats in the long panels by bringing the stitched seams together, meeting in the center. Pin
the pleats in place and press. Baste along the top edge to hold in place. Clean-finish the top edge of the front skirt panel with your Huskylock® serger.

Turn under and press 1" along the top edge of one long pleated panel. Open out the pressed edge and stitch the remaining strip of hook and loop tape to the right side of the fabric between the serged edge and the fold. Refold the edge and stitch in place close to the serged edge.

Pin the remaining skirt panel pieces, right sides together, along the other edges of the deck. Stitch with a 1/2” seam allowance. Press the seams toward the deck.


Place the deck on the box spring and attach the Velcro®panel.
